Help & Advice
Frequently Asked
Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often — from costs and timescales to compliance, servicing, and how we work.
General Enquiries
Do you offer free quotes?
Yes. We offer free no-obligation site surveys and fixed-price quotes for all new installation work. We visit your site before recommending anything — no guesswork, no overselling.
What areas do you cover?
We are based in Manchester and cover the whole of the UK for commercial projects. For domestic work we primarily cover Greater Manchester and the wider North West.
How quickly can you respond to a breakdown?
For emergency breakdowns we aim to respond within 4 hours. For routine and planned work we typically schedule within 5–7 working days, though we often have earlier availability.
Are your engineers F-Gas certified?
Yes. All Chillmasters engineers hold current F-Gas certification as required by UK law for anyone handling refrigerants. Our certifications are kept up to date and available on request.
Air Conditioning
How much does air conditioning installation cost?
Costs vary by system type and size. A domestic single split system typically starts from around £1,200 fully installed. Commercial systems vary more widely. We provide a fixed price before any work starts — no surprises on the final invoice.
How long does installation take?
A standard domestic split system installation typically takes 4–6 hours. Larger multi-room or commercial installations may take 1–3 days depending on the number of units and the complexity of the pipework run.
What brands do you install?
We install all leading brands including Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Samsung, LG, Panasonic, and Fujitsu. We will recommend the best option for your specific requirements and budget.
How often should air conditioning be serviced?
We recommend a minimum of one service per year, ideally two — once before summer and once before winter. If your system contains more than 3 kg of refrigerant, annual inspection is also a legal requirement under F-Gas regulations.
Can you install air conditioning in an older or listed building?
Yes. We regularly work in period properties and listed buildings, selecting the least intrusive installation method. We can also advise on permitted development rules and any planning considerations that may apply.
Refrigeration
Do you install walk-in cold rooms?
Yes. We design and install cold rooms, blast chillers, and commercial refrigeration for food retail, hospitality, pharmaceutical, and industrial clients across the UK.
Do you offer emergency refrigeration breakdown cover?
Yes. We provide 24/7 emergency breakdown cover for commercial refrigeration. We aim to attend within 4 hours to minimise the risk to your stock or product.
Can you service refrigeration equipment you did not install?
Absolutely. We service and maintain refrigeration systems regardless of the original installer or brand. If you are switching supplier, we carry out an initial inspection before taking over your service agreement.
Compliance & Certification
What is F-Gas compliance and do I need it?
F-Gas regulations require that equipment containing certain refrigerants (HFCs and HFOs) is regularly inspected, that leaks are recorded in a logbook, and that only certified engineers handle the refrigerant. If your air conditioning or refrigeration system uses these gases — which most modern systems do — the regulations apply to you.
What is a TM44 inspection?
A TM44 inspection is a statutory energy efficiency assessment required for air conditioning systems with a rated output over 12 kW. It is required under UK building regulations and must be carried out by a qualified assessor. We are qualified to carry out and certify TM44 inspections.
How often is a TM44 inspection required?
TM44 inspections must be repeated at least every 5 years. We keep records and will contact you in advance when your next inspection is due.
Servicing & Maintenance
Do you offer PPM (planned preventative maintenance) contracts?
Yes. Our PPM contracts cover scheduled maintenance visits, priority emergency response, compliance documentation, and full service history records — everything you need to keep systems running efficiently and stay legally compliant.
What is included in a standard service visit?
A standard service visit includes filter cleaning, refrigerant pressure checks, electrical connection inspection, condensate drain clearance, and a full operational test of heating and cooling modes. We report on any remedial work identified and provide a written record of the visit.
